More of the same, in the positive
One thing about me, and this newsletter right now. I’m going to talk about Trader Joe’s and Abercrombie clothes. And I’m going to talk about composting. And that’s just where I’m at.
I was walking with my friend this morning who has a four-week-almost-one-month-year-old. I asked her what’s the one piece of baby gear she’s evangelizing right now, and she shared that she’s evangelizing not believing the hype about the baby gear. Which I actually love.
But if you were to ask me what I’m evangelizing right now, it would be composting. And maybe Pilates. And I guess whatever is in this newsletter on a given week. Anyway, here’s a photo of Honey and some of the hair we brushed off.
The vibes are good. 248 is actually one of my favorite numbers, so I’m excited about the 248th issue. I love first digit times second digit equals third digit situation. To have an address where the digits somehow equal each other? A dream.
I hope today is beautiful for you!
Number One: Trader Joe’s S’mores ice cream
I have a new favorite ice cream: the S’mores ice cream from Trader Joe’s. It is unreal how good it is. I don’t love a s’more in real life. I’ll eat one to mark the rite of passage of a bonfire, etc, but I don’t seek them out. The flavor is not worth the mess. This ice cream though, no mess and incredible flavor. Woah. It is so good. I have had to stop buying it because it was becoming a problem. But if you buy it and invite me over, I’m always a gracious guest, ya know?
Number Two: Composting
I truly am loving composting. I am thisclose to buying a second tumbler on marketplace so that I can have two piles going at once. But my fear is that two piles becomes three piles becomes my non-HOA neighborhood tattles on me in someway.
It’s just truly a delight to have a science project in the backyard.
I am pleased that I am diverting food waste from the landfill, AND I think that I am being more mindful about the produce I buy and how I use it. In the past if I had strawberries on the verge of bad I would eat a few and shamefully throw the rest away. The last few weeks, I’ve noticed the verge, chopped and composted the tops, and then froze the berries for smoothies. I have some bell peppers about to turn that are going to go in a make-ahead breakfast casserole as soon as I’m done with this newsletter.
Anyway, let me evangelize composting to you.
Number Three: This Rugby Shirt from Abercrombie
Once a quarter I buy something from Abercrombie and it becomes the thing you will be seeing me in. This season, it’s this Rugby Shirt. Pardon, this Essential Collared Crew. It’s more sweatshirt than shirt. But it is so comfy cozy. You will be seeing me in it this fall.
Number Four: You Didn’t Ask with Jordan Soderholm
Speaking of fashion. I am really enjoying being subscribed to this fashion newsletter from Jordan Soderholm. Jordan and I neither have the same body size or threshold for “affordable” but there’s a way that makes it more enjoyable - I’ve never once bought something she suggested. But I’ve been inspired by it! I love her mission of building a closet that lasts. It’s kind of like reading a shorter, more personable fashion magazine.
ALSO my cousin Alana just launched a newsletter which you should sign up for.
More fabric-related fun. Plus Alana is a really gifted linocut block print artist, and I get compliments on her prints both in the office and at my home all the time. Worth your while.
Number Five: The True Value Hardware Store on Johnson Drive
The True Value Hardware Store on Johnson Drive is the Trader Joe’s of hardware stores. The inventory is limited. The parking situation: you need to double, triple check as you back out. And you are all but guaranteed to have a helpful and friendly employee help you find exactly what you need. What True Value has that Trader Joe’s does not is Dippin’ Dots in a cooler. I love this hardware store. I love over-paying for chaotically colored mums there. I love that when I buy rocks, they load the rocks into my car for me no prob bob. I love that I can walk in and say “I need this screw again,” and someone, judgment free will walk me to exactly that screw.
