Happy Sunday!
I hope everyone’s first NFL Sunday is exactly how you want it to be and that you remember, in grace, fantasy football is meant to be fun.
One tip that I love from Courtney Cleveland is to have a freezer meal ready for when you get back from a trip. I do this, but I’ve taken the concept and applied it to scheduling spa services during busy seasons at work. Which now that I type that out, it’s called rewarding yourself, so it’s not the same thing at all. Anyway, I’m grateful to be getting my eyebrows done later this week.
I’m having a great day in a great weekend in a fun season. The weather is reasonable. Things are good.
This issue is a little Amazon link heavy, I do apologize. But my week was really made better by some granola and drain clearing.
Number One: This Granola
If you ever take any suggestion I give you, other than to trust in the saving work of Christ, try this granola.
I was on my way to my friend Julie’s house this week, and Julie is so wonderful and always offers me a little snack. This week she offered Purely Elizabeth Granola and it was so freaking good. This granola is perfectly savory. Delicious enough to eat with almond milk. YUM.
Number Two: Vengeance
Last night we watched Vengeance on Amazon Prime and I really liked it. There are some loose ends, etc, but overall it was funny and heartfelt. The characters were stereotypical without being reductive. Good movie night in movie.
Number Three: The Purple Trail
Locals: if you are looking for a walk that feels like a hike, may I recommend the purple mountain biking trail at Shawnee Mission Park? It’s a little over two miles. Lots of opportunities to twist your ankle, and you feel like you’re in nature. There were bikes on the trail with us, but it seemed like a chill enough time for my reactive dog. Reactive dog, roots to thrill the PT I saw when I kept spraining my ankle, and cute Fiance pictured here:
Number Four: These Drain things
As a woman with hair and a house with old plumbing, I’m trying to be more mindful of what makes it down the drain, especially before I pour corrosive chemicals. So sometimes you have to call in these drain things, which are fabulous to use once a quarter or so. I pulled out what you might visualize as a large hamster sized clump of hair just this Friday. Satisfying and gross.
Number Five: Has anyone tried passive composting?
Long time readers of this newsletter will remember my energy around when China had stopped buying American’s recycling, so recycling became less of an eco move.
I am, every once and a while, trying to make an eco move. What can I say? I grew up in Lawrence, Kansas. I did an independent study about Amazon deforestation that turned me off of beef for at least a little while. We sometime ask for the “wisdom and will to care for creation” in the Prayers of the People at church.
I’m trying to buy things second hand more often. We bought compostable paper plates to try at church. And lately I’ve been reading more about this composting bin which WireCutter recommends for passive composting. Passive is better if you care less about the compost outcomes and more about diverting food waste, which is me. I’m not really interested in turning anything, but I am interested in fewer things in the garbage disposal and fewer things in the trash.
So if you’ve tried it, sound off in the comments, reply to this email, be honest about smell, maybe I’ll report back!
