Happy Sunday!
The electricity is back on at my house. That’s really the biggest thing from the last week.
People like when I put photos in the newsletter, so here’s six. Harper and I went to Gocha tea in Shawnee and their cups are so aesthetic, we had to take a pic.
Grateful to hear I’m not the only Kirk Cousins conversion. Truly, if I like the color purple at all I would buy Vikings gear.
Hope this week is beautiful for you!
Number One: Barbie, etc
I saw Barbie Friday night, and I told a couple friends this week that it felt more than a little like when I was preparing to go to the Taylor Swift Eras Tour. Suddenly I found myself processing all that Barbie meant to me when I was little. How I would chew on mine and my sister’s Barbie’s feet (can’t explain it) and get in trouble. How our mom made us the BEST Barbie house that was made out of foam core and had scrapbook paper for wallpaper. She also sewed us these Barbie sleeping bags out of felt. I’ve really under-appreciated how crafty my mom was when we were little.
Like the Eras tour it was just a girlie fun time. I put on fun earrings, I wore pink. I said “hey girls!” To the strangers in the AMC recliners as I climbed over their feet to get to my seat.” We gladly asked a stranger to take a group photo for us. It felt like we were a part of a moment.
I was talking about this with Claire, and she said, “it’s like Great Value Eras Tour.” And I laughed and said I would quote her.
I thought the movie was clever and fun. The part about the Godfather just sent me. I think if you’re someone who has BIG feelings about feminism this isn’t the movie for you. But if you’re someone who “can balance logic and emotion and be stronger for it” it will make you smile.
If you liked the earrings Barbie was wearing in the last scene, I wear a similar pair almost every single day, and I was going to link BUT ABLE DOESN’T SELL THEM ANY MORE APPARENTLY.
Number Two: Cucumber Snack
This feels like a total Diet Mom Snack, but it’s a current fave:
Slice a Persian cucumber in half long ways, top with cream cheese and everything but the bagel seasoning. Great crunch, good snack.
Number Three: Replace a filter this week
So with the power coming back, the fridge just has a smell. I’ve done everything short of call in a pro.
However, it came to my attention that one is supposed to replace the water filter in their fridge every six months, which is a task I’ve never done in my two years in this house. After much rigamarole to figure out which filter I needed, the filter is replaced. And the water really does taste lighter.
Number Four: Journaling
Losing power for a couple of days flustered me more than I would have thought that it could. Monday morning I sat down and wrote out everything that felt frustrating and out of my immediate control. And then I wrote out a list of things that would help me feel better. Some of these things were like “$2000 cash” but most were along the lines of “washing my hair,” “going to the gym,” “eating salad.”
And I’m just really grateful for 13+ years of self-reflection that I’ve benefitted from. I think if you are not a journaler, you should try it. Give yourself a month. Give yourself freedom to write as much or as little as you want. When your mind feels full, let yourself make a list.
Number Five: The orange slide at the Mission Family Aquatic Center
Just a fun ride. Best to go early in the afternoon when it’s less crowded.
Bonus: Thank you to whoever bought a Ninja Warrior jungle gym using my Amazon link
I experience medium-squishy feelings about using Amazon Affiliate links. I want to move away from consumerism, but it’s nice when I do recommend something and someone buys it, and a Ninja Warrior Jungle Gym, and I get $6 in commission.
