Hi!
I hope everyone is having a great week. Things are pretty peachy keen over here. Harrison Scott Key released a new book which I am excited to dive into. I am two weeks away from vacation, so I’m officially in thinking about it mode, and I’m just excited. My heels have never been more cracked, so if you have good foot care tips, send them my way. I have been doing the Camino de Santiago challenge on my Garmin watch for MONTHS and barring injury, I’m going to finish it this week. Even though it’s a made up walking challenge, it’s nice to accomplish something.
Happy Father’s Day and Juneteenth!
Number One: for your pool/beach read
Last year, my friend Libby guest wrote Five Things and talked about stopping a Little Free Libraries. If you’ve ever gone on a walk with me in my neighborhood, you’ve heard me talk about how the area is super saturated with LFLs. Our suburb has the lowest home values in NE JoCo, the economy simply can’t support this many LFLs! Something’s gotta give!!
I digress. Two weeks ago I picked up “Here’s to Us” down the block because I had seen my friend Maci reading a Elin Hildenbrand book, and thought, why not?
It’s cute, it’s fun. I want to read exactly one more Elin book this Summer and then I’ll probably be tired of Nantucket.
Number Two: golf is fun and easy
As of today I have played 23 holes of golf, and it’s so fun! Before my golf debut ten days ago I thought the sport just wasn’t for me. This is mostly because I distinctly remember not enjoying the golf unit of “Lifetime Sports” in high school. I actually don’t think I enjoyed a single unit of Lifetime Sports because I was too worried about what random people thought about me.
And to enjoy golf, or really most physical activity, you can’t worry about what random people think of you.
It’s not a zero entry level sport. You gotta go with someone with patience a mile long and who knows what’s going on. I greatly benefited from golfing with Chris who knows that I don’t care if I look like a ding dong, as long as I don’t feel like a ding dong, and what makes me feel like a ding dong is being told what to do repeatedly. We had a blast. I love trying new things, especially when skorts are involved.
Number Three: Weighing in on the Owala/Stanley Conversation
Back in May, I looked at my Stanley Quencher and just got the ick, so I bought the Owala Free Sip. I like that it’s spill proof, can be thrown in my backpack/roll around on my passenger seat. I like that the straw in more wide because I suddenly became worried about smoker lips. I like that I can refill the bottle without having to screw any lids off. I prefer it for everyday hydration. I still like my Stanley for road trips; you’re just not going to beat 40 ounces of cold water that can fit in a cup holder (FWIW, the Owala also fits). I was talking to one of my middle school friends today, and I said, “if you can only get one, get the Owala, if you can get two, get the Owala and the Stanley.”
Number Four: Chia Seeds on waffles
I’m in a chia seeds phase and I recently started putting them on my morning waffles. I’m enjoying it so far.
Number Five: Tweets I thought were funny this week
(I’ve tried like three times for these links to work, so I’m just doing ugly links :))
