Move hot dogs
There’s a note on my phone right now that just says “move hot dogs.” That’s kind of been the theme of the weekend. It has been a very full, socially and emotionally, and full of hot dogs.
I’m tired and I’m putting a lot of faith on my probiotic to keep me safe amidst all the hot dogs.
This sentence now has links to the my instagram, and old issues of the newsletter. Also my Nuuly referral link. I hope today is beautiful for you.
Number One: This Quinoa Salad
I made the Cookie and Kate Quinoa Salad for a baby shower yesterday and it was a true hit. Easy peasy, but filling. It might have just been the onion I bought - but the onion has a strong presence. Like strong. This afternoon I cried because my hands smell like onions, among other topics. So just be mindful of that, maybe use less than you normally would.
Number Two: Two podcast episodes to make you cry in a good way
Speaking of crying:
My friend Shaynor was on a podcast this week, Accidental Hope, and I think you should just go ahead and queue it up. Shaynor was my RUF pastor at Baylor, and then my Oregon boss/landlord/family for the Summer in 2014. The safest place in the world to me is the Newsome’s dining room table. Shaynor has been so formative to my faith in so many ways, and this podcast episode is no exception. It’s not a fun listen - Shaynor was involved in a fatal car accident five years ago - but to say that it’s really encouraging would be an understatement. I think especially if you’re walking through suffering right now, or have ever asked, “why do bad things happen to good people?” Or if you’ve ever wondered, “does that Shaynor guy Katherine keeps referencing have a soothing voice?” This is for you, it’s good.
Number Three: Taylor Swift Treadmill Strut (TSTS)
It’s not that I’m anti-treadmill, I’m just not in a treadmill phase right now. A TikTok was served to me recommending the spotify playlist “Taylor Swift Treadmill Strut” and it works for outdoor walks too.
Number Four: A podcast series for your next road trip
In the coming months, when you find yourself on the road again with a Diet Coke in the console, I recommend listening to the podcast “Wild Things: Siegfried & Roy.” It’s pretty good. It’s not like groundbreaking, and in a year you’ll forget you even listened to it. But it will distract you well enough on the long drive.
Number Five: May I recommend a Frappacino?
If you are looking for a little afternoon sweat treat that doesn’t have caffeine, but isn’t like too too sweet, look no further than the Chai Creme Frap at Starbucks. Delightful. Take care of your inner middle-schooler and just get a frappacino.
