It’s President’s Eve
Spooky!
Thanks Max for guest writing last week! If I have gotten in touch with you about guest writing in 2022, will you remind me? I’ve gotten better about not keeping my social and work calendar in my head, but not yet the Five Things calendar.
Today is day four of a five day weekend that was supposed to be a three day weekend. I guess technically, I half-worked on the snow days. Half-worked, half-cleaned. Got a library card, which did feel like resigning myself to the suburbs more than parking in my garage or getting Kansas plates.
You can support my suburbs lifestyle, and this newsletter by becoming a paid subscriber at the link below!
This sentence now has links to the my instagram, and old issues of the newsletter. I hope today is beautiful for you.
Number One: Chaco Boots
Long time readers of Five Things will remember that I used to love my off brand Uggs that I got from Amazon when I lived in Pittsburgh. They were faithful, but in the end, they made my feet smell. They made my feet smell in such an undeniable way, that last Spring I was forced to throw them away. And so, in January I found myself with my three year old Target chelsea boots, on the the great winter boot hunt.
What I wanted: boots that would be warm and waterproof enough for snow shoveling, but wouldn’t be embarrassing to wear at a restaurant.
What I bought: these boots from Chaco. (Just now realizing how big time out of stock these are, sorry.)
These boots haven’t solved for world peace, but they did make my winter boot wish come true. My main complaints are: they come untied a little too easily - you have to double knot. If I got on a walk longer than a mile, the ankle support/way I walk/something makes my calves unbelievably tight for like day after unless I foam roll.
Picture of the last time I loved snow:
Number Two: JLo and Leah Remini
It was brought to my attention at one Jennifer Lopez and Leah Remini are dear friends, and gang, they have the cutest friendship.
JLo and Leah talk about Brooklyn vs. the Bronx.
JLo and Leah talk about who pays for dinner.
JLo and Leah ate salty lasagna.
Leah somehow makes JLo seem more human, and also still looks incredible sitting next to her?? Is that not the epitome of wonderful female friendship??
Number Three: The Other Two
The Other Two (HBO) is one of those shows where it’s either so funny, and every time you see a Vera Bradley bag you think about the mom from Ohio walks around New York City with a Vera Bradley bag and are tickled. Or there are too many butts for your taste. Just under the threshold of too many butts for me, but I still liked it.
Number Four: The Everyday Long Sleeve
I do want everyone to access Outdoor Voices through this link so I can buy more tees. But once you get there go ahead and buy two of the Everyday Long Sleeve. I love this t-shirt. The white is brilliant. Perfectly light weight. Sleeve length made just for me. It’s possible that this tee could solve for world peace. For girlies who are 5’8”, it’s slightly on the cropped side, like not crop-crop, but I feel like if I got the Everyday Crop that would be too much.
Number Five: Recipe Monday Recap
I’ve been cooking through Comfortable Kitchen on Monday nights, and I’m really enjoying it. The recipes are complicated enough that you feel like you accomplished something, but not so complicated that you’re in tears. My friends that have cooked through Defined Dish warned me that at the outset, you have to buy a lot of random ingredients, but it’s worth it. And so far, I would agree.
Two weeks ago I made this dairy-free chicken and wild rice soup. Perfect amount of flavor. Great on the leftover side too.
For the Super Bowl I made (recipe apparently not online yet!) olive puffs. They looked nothing like the picture, and several people mentioned they thought the puffs were chicken nuggets. Good but not a wow.
Last Monday I made Crispy Chicken Milanese with Arugula Salad (link is different salad, same chicken). This was good, but my main pickle is that big pieces of chicken weird me out (I can’t eat Chikfila sandwiches). Glad I had a friend over for dinner because I ate the leftovers once, and then threw the rest away.
Enjoy this post-church Natural Grocers ingredients run. The shadow looks like a middle finger.
