Ok this week we’re trying something a little new, a sort of one time in January type deal. This week’s Five Things is normally for paid subscribers only. BUT this is the one time year that I try to entice the free people over to supporting the newsletter financially.
So. There is a paywall divider this week so that everyone can get a feel for the vibe, but paid subscribers get the whole thing.
Three objectives for the newsletter for today:
Talk about what we want to name these monthly installments.
Talk about what I want these “subscriber only” newsletters to look like in 2022.
Share some random little tidbits.
Thanks for being here and thanks for supporting Five Things!
I think it would be fun to have a name for these newsletters. “Subscribers only” lacks pizzazz. The only idea I have is “smokers section” and that’s because I’m immature enough to find anything “bad” funny. We could call it “Five Things+,” “Five Things Max,” “Five Things Prime.” We could call it “$5 Footlong” because the subscription is $5/month and the email, if you printed it, would be about a foot.
I’m open to ideas. I want it to be clever.
Part of why I don’t love the idea of calling it “Five Things+” is that my objective for the Smoker’s Section/Smokers Section (someone tell me what kind of apostrophe we need) is that this is a space where the writing goes beyond suggestion and I start digging out a new writing space that is clear and still fun but different. Not that my proclivity to give unsolicited advice is going anywhere.
Two years ago Jenna Brack asked me “What Does Katherine Corliss write?” And I’ve been trying to succinctly answer that question since.
My goal by the December Smokers’ Section is that I have that, a succinct answer to the question of “What Does Katherine Corliss write?”
