Here, there, everywhere
Hi everyone, here’s the scoop: I forgot to follow up with our guest writer. All on me. The good news is that my grad school semester is over tomorrow, and my work school semester is over Friday. And in between getting new license plates and taking Honey to get her ear infection checked, I imagine I may have some time to cultivate this newsletter a little more after all of that than I have the last few weeks.
You know when all that is standing between you and being done is just like one hour of focused effort on a powerpoint, and you just can’t?
It’s always part gift when life is too full for me to write a robust newsletter, but its also part bummer for me because as much as I love the scrappiness of it all, I want Five Things to be good.
Right-o. Christmas cards got mailed yesterday. If by next Sunday yours is not to you, follow up! Mean it.
This week is heavy on the articles. Enjoy!
This sentence now has links to the my instagram, and old issues of the newsletter. I hope today is beautiful for you.
Number One: Good at the Phone
A few weeks ago, on Who? Weekly, Lindsay talked about how she’s been “good at the phone” lately. And by “good at the phone” she’s been making lots of calls and enjoying it. Like a lot of my contemporaries, I quite hate calling people. Would much rather audio message, text, e-mail, carrier pigeon; anything but. But her remarks reminded me that in college, when I worked for the athletic ticket office, I was put on phone duty on game days because my boss said I was “good at the phone,” (or maybe bad at making change, who knows). And that even since then I have almost put on a character anytime I have to make a call. Now that character is a game, and the game is called “good at the phone.” When you play “good at the phone” you LOVE to make small talk, you know exactly why you’re calling, and you want nothing more than to stay on the phone.
Number Two: The power of grapefruit
Did you know that grapefruit can mega impact some medicines you’re taking? Now you do. This article is fascinating both from a pharmaceutical standpoint, and a citrus history perspective.
Number Three: Was Jesus a Carpenter?
Something that I find fascinating are the collective inaccuracies, or maybe just things we’ve accepted as truth without investigating. Like that Jesus was a carpenter.
This article dives into that, whether or not it’s likely, and what other professions Jesus may have had. Interesting historical nod to Jesus without being gotcha-y. Also it wasn’t before, but now it’s behind a paywall for me, which is understandable but irksome.
Number Four: The War on Urban Dirtbiking
Just an interesting read. Made me think about that motorcycle pack that rides around Kansas City.
Number Five: Arcadia Trail dog leash
I really love the leash I bought for Honey. There’s not a lot about being a dog owner that I feel super competent in, but Honey is objectively good, so it’s ok. But her leash and collar were a great buy. The leash has just the tiniest amount of bounce without being stretchy. I like that it’s nice and thick, but still lightweight.
