The best part about having a newsletter, is that you can work on it instead of homework
Grad school is going better than fine, less than amazing. This was really what I expected. But I am learning, and for that I am grateful.
As of tomorrow I will be two weeks out from my Johnson & Johnson vaccine, and I am grateful for that too. Also grateful for:
Saturday bike rides
Slam-dunk Sunday morning sermons, and when Bryan gets into his “earrrrrly Sunday Morning” mode (an example around the 45 minute mark)
March Madness and how my favorite thing about sports is being right, and my least favorite thing is being wrong, but so far I have been more right than wrong in my bracket.
This hour-long Jeff Probst interview sent in by Logan
Your suggestions of nice boys in Dallas for Lilly, keep them coming
This sentence now has links to the my instagram, and old issues of the newsletter.
Next week will be the Friends of the Newsletter issue, you can get on that list by signing up below. Now you can support the newsletter, get that fourth e-mail, and a magnet and/or sticker designed by our very own Lucy Manning (there is both sticker and magnet, but FOTN get them free and first). We love it.
Number One: Skincare round up
It’s been about a year since the skincare issue, and despite the breakout on my chin this week, I thought I would revisit what’s working and what’s new,.
Still working:
Garnier Micellar Water (blue lid) - less than once a week
What’s New:
Ordinary Nicinamide (use 1-2 times a week)
Drunk Elephant Retinol (use 3-4 times a week at night, I can truly tell a difference, and just like Fix Your Period, my friends from college wish I would shut up about Retinol - BUT I WON’T)
BeautyCounter Cleanser - just came in the mail yesterday, but I am pumped! (if you need a BeautyCounter gal, I have the hook up!)
THIS LIP MASK has made it possible for me to curb my chapstick habit, and it is worth every penny
Number Two: Stylish Seniors
This piece from The Cut previewing Chinatown Pretty was tender and fun. It also put names and faces to elders in the Asian community, who this week especially need our thoughts and fervent prayers for protection.
Number Three: Sports Corner
Number Four: Swab Drama
This piece from Bloomberg is a long read, but fascinating. I’ll let the headline do the introduction:
America’s Covid Swab Supply Depends on Two Cousins Who Hate Each Other
It’s a ride.
Number Five: Money Trees
This week I sent out to pasture the very first house plant I bought when I moved to Kansas City. And by sent out to pasture, I mean I dumped what was left of it and the potting soil into the sinkhole in our backyard. It was time.
Also this week, the gal that comes to our office to water the office plants stopped by my desk to compliment how well my money tree was doing. Reader, I have never flown so high.
I got my money tree at Trader Joe’s, and it could not be easier. (No shade to Family Tree Nursery, but my $54 Cactus, Craig, died a quick and gross death, and although it was probably the lack of light in our house, gotta stick to TJ’s.) It sits about six feet from an East-facing window, I water it once a week, and rotate it every so often. Plus it reminds me why I am at work, for the money.
