Thank you for adjusting with me…
Wednesday’s email was supposed to go out Tuesday, but was dated for Thursday, so I’m not really sure what the story is there. I am grateful that the e-mail landed in your inbox and not your promotions folder, to the four of you that brought me that good news. My hypothesis is that the next couple weeks will be lil rocky, but then we’ll get in the swing of things, and will be rockin and rollin much like the Dan + Shay concert I was supposed to attend in April and still haven’t gotten a refund on.
You can follow me on Instagram here, and the linktree on my profile needs to be updated, but it does include my Outdoor Voices referral link.
Number One: Such a Fun Age
This book was recommended on my instagram feed I don’t know how many times, and I let me hold on the library copy lapse more than once before I finally went to pick it up Monday on my lunch break. It took me until Tuesday evening to finish it, and I promptly took it back to the Plaza Branch because I was so excited for the next person to get to read it.
It’s fast-paced, thought-provoking, multi-faceted. If you liked Nothing to See Here, this is your next read. The social commentary makes the book worth its weight in gold, but I think it could still be read on the beach.
Number Two: The Mango Tangerine candle from Trader Joe’s
It smells quite a bit like an Anthropologie Volcano candle, but without the price tag. If there’s a line graph situation that looks like a supply-demand model, I want my candles to smell nice, but not be so expensive I refuse to burn them. And this candle meets nicely in the middle.
Number Three: Standing Appointments make good friends
When I worked for RUF they encouraged us to have three standing appointments with students throughout the week, all the other one-on-one meetings could change and be inconsistent, but having three anchors would make the wackiness of the job seem less wacky.
I think I only ever had two consistent standing appointments, coffee with Bethany on Monday and Pizza with Molly on Friday, but it was the best of times.
I was thinking this week about how much I cherish my Thursday walks with Makenzie; more and more, I think standing appointments make for great friendships. Sure you need the occasional coffee drop off and Friday night margarita, but maybe the key to making the world feel less wacky is showing up consistently.
Number Four: Mountain Time is the best time zone
I wouldn’t say I’m a timezone authority, but I have spent a significant amount of time in each of America’s continental time zones (except Arizona) and have to agree that Mountain Time is the best time. Eastern is just too mainstream, Central is fine, but nothing special, Pacific means everyone knows what happens on the Bachelor before you.
This article reminded me of a TikTok I was watching a few weeks ago where some guy said, I’m not sure why but 5x5=25 is Thursday and 7x7=49 is Friday, and I was like, “exactly, couldn’t agree more.”
Number Five: At Home KC and Annie B. Jones
I have two people you may not know in real life, but are definitely worth the follow on Instagram recommendations for you.
First, my friend Becca’s Real Estate account, @athomeKC just has a very peaceful vibe. I am no where close to buying a house, but every time Becca posts I’m like “wow, I love it here.” Plus Becca is just a five star gal.
Annie B. Jones owns an independent bookstore in Georgia, has great, consistent reviews of books, and occasionally drops just the right amount of wisdom. Also a very peaceful feed that won’t make you feel small about not being able to afford a six bedroom and will have you saying, “wow changing the fixtures really did update the space!”
If you’ve made it this far in the e-mail and want to help me test out the commenting feature, will you share a person-you-may-not-know-in-real-life-but-it’s-still-a-great-time social media account or maybe a math equation that equates to a day of the week for you?
As promised, here’s the link to Ticket to Ride.
Monday-Wednesday-Fridays are even days. Tuesday and Thursdays are odd.
@kccheeses is a quality insta follow for content at the intersection of all things cheese (my love language) & Kansas City local restaurants.
